Thinking of Changing Gas or Electric Suppliers? Be Careful and Know your Rights First

In recent months, many neighbors have been visited by representatives of “ECSOS”-third party energy (electric and/or gas) suppliers, some of whom may use deceptive sales methods. The following, from a flyer distributed by another Brooklyn neighborhood group from Greenwood Heights provides some useful tips:

How not to be scammed by Deceptive sales techniques

As a result of the deregulation of our local power companies, you can choose your third-party energy supplier through Con Edison or National Grid. Don’t allow a stranger to Force you to choose through deceptive, coercive or even illegal sales techniques. There has been an epidemic of local residents being intimidated into changing their provider due to misrepresentations by third-party sales staff of regional energy service companies (ESCOS) going door-to-door claiming to ‘save you money on your electric or gas bill.’ If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Renowned Local Artist at PLG Arts Production

Otto NealOtto Neil and Laura FrenzerPLG Arts’ production of “Daydream”, a children’s version of Midsummer Night’s Dream had it’s third season in Prospect Park’s Imagination Playground this past summer. Otto Neals, a prominent Brooklyn sculptor and painter, and a frequent exhibitor at Dorsey’s Gallery, on Rogers Avenue in our neighborhood was on hand for the children’s activities following the Sunday July 13th performance. Neals created the large bronze statue of “Peter and Willie”, characters in Ezra Jack Keats’ book “Peter’s Chair” which is an important feature of this innovative playground.

Monthly PLG Arts Jazz Nights continue at the Inkwell on Rogers Avenue

Rina Kleege wrote this profile of one of the great PLG-based performers. Russ Spiegel, a two-time performer at PLG Arts Jazz at the Ink Well (408 Rogers Ave between Lefferts and Sterling streets), is a resident of the neighborhood. Like many musicians, he finds Prospect Lefferts Gardens attractive and convenient, with lots of like-minded neighbors in the arts.
