Help a PLG Filmmaker Make His Next Feature

Jeremy Saulnier of PLGAward-winning filmmaker and PLG resident Jeremy Saulnier is teaming up with the producers, Film Science for Blue Ruin, a unique and exciting thriller that begins shooting this month.

Blue Ruin will be Saulnier’s second feature film, after the 2007 cult favorite Murder Party. Film Science has been behind such acclaimed indie hits as Meek’s Cutoff and Wendy and Lucy. This new collaboration will be a blend of the two filmic brands that appeals to “art house cinephiles and die-hard genre fans.”

The five-week shoot will take place in Brooklyn, as well as Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and the Virginia suburbs where Saulnier grew up before moving to New York for film school at NYU almost twenty years ago. With a cast including Amy Hargreaves (from Showtime’s Homeland) and Macon Blair, a PLG resident (from Murder Party), Saulnier promises a “subversive take on the traditional American revenge film.”

The story follows Dwight, a peaceful and reclusive seaside vagrant who travels back to his hometown to confront the ugly traumas of his past. A skilled visual stylist and exacting storyteller, Saulnier has assembled a ferocious team of designers and technicians to help him bring his script to the screen. “I have a six million dollar movie that I’m trying to make for two hundred thousand,” Saulnier explains. Financing consists, in part, of Saulnier and his wife’s liquidated savings, retirement accounts and credit cards, but they are augmenting the budget with a Kickstarter fundraising page, which is nearing its $35,000 goal with six days to go.
