PLG Arts Jazz at the Ink Well Cafe presents Dr. Mambo and his Explosion Experience Thursday, March 10, from 8-10:30. The Experience Ensemble covers the bases from Caribbean sounds, reggae, salsa, Latin Jazz to Soukous and High Life as the rhythmic engines that drives the Experience Jazz extravaganza. They are firm believers in a Ghanaian proverb “SANKOFA, wonkyir” which, when translated, means “There’s nothing wrong with going back to your roots.”
You can hear a preview of this great sound at Dr. Mambo’s website. Then come hear it in person—and try some of the great soul food while you’re at it.
PLG Arts Jazz at the Ink Well presents great music the second Thursday of every month. Starting in the warmer weather, you can hear more great music on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month through July. Upcoming shows: April 14—Jeff King. April 28—David Aaron and Short Memory. Aren’t we lucky to have this so close by?
Rina Kleege wrote this profile of one of the great PLG-based performers. Russ Spiegel, a two-time performer at PLG Arts Jazz at the Ink Well (408 Rogers Ave between Lefferts and Sterling streets), is a resident of the neighborhood. Like many musicians, he finds Prospect Lefferts Gardens attractive and convenient, with lots of like-minded neighbors in the arts. The Ink Well Café hosts PLG Arts Jazz at the Ink Well the second Thursday of every month (see schedule at http://www.plgarts.org) Continue reading ‘Monthly PLG Arts Jazz Nights continue at the Inkwell on Rogers Avenue’
